PC tips!

This page has some free tips that should help, no matter what computer you're running. These tips are also all free of charge!

Tip 1: Undusting
Dust inside a computer can clump together on a component and prevent airflow across your components. So undusting the inside of your computer once every 6 months or so is usually a good idea. Some computers just have a simple latch on the side that needs to be opened, others may have 1-3 screws securing a metal panel on a computer's side. Opening up your computer and blowing it out with a can of compressed air can help performance and keep your parts healthy for a longer period of time.

Tip 2: Security
Most modern tech is fairly secure due to advanced hashing algorithms and next-generation connectivity methods. However, considering how many points of security there are to check, follow this list for some best practices:
-Configure your access point or router. This can be a little advanced for some users, so contact your manufacturer for assistance. Make sure your wifi's security is at least WPA2 with the AES encryption or better (like WPA3).
-Disable WPS. WPS can be a security risk.
-Put passwords on everything and make sure they use a combination of uppercase, lowercase, special characters, and numbers. Anything 10 characters or longer should be sufficient. The more random the password, the better. Just be sure you can memorize it.
-Check connected devices on your network and boot any you don't recognize. Most should have a name, like "Joe's iPhone"
-Use https:// when possible over http://
